Meet the team

When you sign up to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Brothers BJJ, rest assured you are being taught by experienced black belt teachers and instructors who also have a strong history in BJJ competition.

All of our trainers are IBJJF and Blue Card certified, which means they are recognised for their rank and their ability to work with children. They understand that no two bodies are alike and will work with you to help you achieve your best.

Head Trainers

Timothy Buhagiar

  • 2nd degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
  • Orange Belt in Judo
  • Blue Card

Tim’s love for grappling started with Judo but after high school moved towards BJJ.  After achieving his Brown Belt in BJJ he would return to Judo as a white belt winning back to back competitions against much higher ranks.  A result which earned him automatic promotion through the ranks.  Tim has also achieved an AFBJJ state title in BJJ.  Tim’s strategies and game plans for BJJ are one of his greatest strengths.

David Buhagiar

  • 2nd degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
  • Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education (Griffith University)
  • Blue Card

David would start BJJ at the same time as his brother.  With no prior experience with contact sports he would earn medals in both state and local AFBJJ competition before concentrating his time on becoming a coach.  

Assistant Instructors

Shinsuke Kuwazuru

  • Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
  • Assistant Instructor

Shin started his BJJ training over a decade ago and has a lot of success in competition. He is a wealth of knowledge in the sport and one of our assistant instructors.
